Now Accepting Applications for Scholarship/Bursary Program

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador announced November 30 that they are accepting applications for their annual scholarship/bursary program. The purpose of the Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to qualifying amateur athletes, coaches and officials to help offset the costs of training and competition.

Students currently enrolled in a recognized post secondary institution and participating in athletic, coaching, or officiating endeavors are eligible to apply for a scholarship/bursary. Completed forms, together with all supporting documentation, must be received on or before the last day of February 2007. Application forms can be downloaded at www.sportnl.ca or call 709-576-4932.

This year for the first time the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation will be presenting the Team Gushue Scholarship Award in honour of their gold medal performance at the 2006 Winter Olympics. One male and one female athlete will each be awarded a $5,000 scholarship for the continuance of their education and athletic pursuits. Athletes who are interested in applying for the scholarship must complete the Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship/Bursary application available at www.sportnl.ca.

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador is the volunteer organization committed to the promotion and advancement of amateur sport throughout the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
