Girls Soccer and Boys Slo Pitch Provincial Tournaments

School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador continues its fall season this weekend as the boys slo pitch teams and girls soccer teams take to the diamonds and the pitches.

Holy Spirit High in Manuels is the host school for the 4A Girls Soccer Provincial Tournament. Six teams will compete for top honours in this event. The teams are divided into two divisions for round robin play. Division A will see action between Holy Heart of Mary (St. John�s), Holy Spirit (Manuels) and Mount Pearl Senior High. Facing off in Division B will be Booth Memorial (St. John�s), Marystown Central High and Gonzaga High (St. John�s). Games will be played at both Nugents Field and Queen Elizabeth Field at 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday. The top two teams from each division meet in the cross overs scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday morning. The championship game is scheduled for Nugents Field at 12:30 p.m.

Indian River High is Springdale is the host school for the 3A Girls Soccer Championships. Six teams will also be competing in this event. Division A will have competition between the host, Indian River High, Stephenville High and Holy Name of Mary (Lawn). The B division will include Gander Collegiate, Menihek High (Labrador City) and Carbonear Collegiate. Games start at 8:30 Friday morning and continue throughout the day. The semi-finals are scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday with the championship game set to go a t 2 p.m.

Burgeo Academy is the host school for the Boys 3A Slo Pitch tournament where 8 teams will be vying for top honors. In Division A, Dunne Memorial (St. Mary�s), Random Island Academy,

Long Range Academy (Cow Head) and Cape John Collegiate (La Scie) will compete. Division B competition include J.M. Olds Collegiate (Twillingate), Bay D�Espoir Academy (Milltown), Christ the King School (Rushoon) and Burgeo Academy. Games start 9 a.m. Friday with round robin action being played throughout Friday and Saturday morning. The top two teams from each division will play off Saturday afternoon with the winning teams meeting in the championship game at 4 p.m.

The top 4A Boys Slo Pitch teams will converge on Bonavista this coming weekend as Discovery Collegiate hosts the 4A Slo Pitch Boys Championships. Eight teams will play in a two division round robin format. Division 1 action will be between Queen Elizabeth High (Foxtrap), Harriot Curtis Collegiate (St. Anthony), Corner Brook High and Botwood Collegiate. Battling for the top two spots in Division 2 will be Holy Trinity High (Torbay), Discovery Collegiate, Leo Burke Academy (Bishop Falls) and Ascension Collegiate (Bay Roberts).

The tournament gets underway at 3:30 Thursday with the first two games of the schedule. Round robin games will be played all day Friday and into Saturday. The cross overs will be played 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Saturday with the championship game scheduled for 2:45 p.m.

In its continuing effort to emphasize sportsmanship, School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador, are sponsoring the Sportsmanship First Program. In addition to the Team Sportsmanship Banner, each team will nominate an individual player to receive an individual sportsmanship medal.

The top teams will be rewarded with gold and silver medals, while the winner of the championship game will also receive the coveted Championship Banner.
