St. John's shooter has golden aim at Canadian Nationals

Dave Woolridge, St. John's, has finished the Canadian Smallbore Rifle Nationals with his best results ever.  Dave took gold in three events that he shot in, Sharpshooter 50 metre three-position, Sharpshooter 50 metre prone and Expert air rifle.

Dave was particularly satisfied with his 50 metre prone results as he reset and then equaled his personal best on back-to-back relays.  He also posted two strong air rifle relays giving him a personal best of 1,141 and equaling the provincial record for a single relay with a 573.

The air rifle gold was especially important as he had a though battle with Laurent Simard of Quebec.  In the end Dave came from a one-point deficit to a one-point lead.  Both shooters went on to compete in the finals, a shoot off among the top eight shooters.  Dave added to his lead by out shooting Laurent by two points.  This put Dave in 4th place over all, and earned him 4th seat on the National A team.  He is now eligible to earn a position on Canada's Pan Am Games team for the Summer of 2007.
