The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Provincial Long Course Swimming Championships

Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador will be hosting the Long Course Provincial Championships at the Aquarena in St. John�s (May 26-28). Close to 200 swimmers from 12 teams throughout Newfoundland and Labrador will compete in the province�s last meet of the season.

The meet will consist of preliminary heats in the morning and A and B consolation finals each evening for the top 16 swimmers in each event. Medals will be awarded for each event and overall top achievers will be named in each age category for males and females.

One male and one female will be presented a performance award which is based on the highest ranking Swim Canada World Chart point swim during finals. The swimmer with the highest ranking swim will be given the Jacinta Sheppard Memorial Award. In addition, the Top Overall High Point Team, Most Improved Team awards, the 10th Annual Swim for Hope awards, and the Annual Speedo-Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador Awards will be announced. The Speedo-Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador Awards include the male and female Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.
