NLIS 6 May 26, 2006 (Tourism, Culture and Recreation) The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador: Taking swimming to the next level Over 430 participants competed in Calgary, May 19-22, at the 2006 Canadian Masters Swimming Championship hosted by the Cascade Swimming Club at the Talisman Centre. Two swimmers who train in Newfoundland and are members of the Avalon Masters Swim Club, Stephen Peddle (36) and Edward Evelly (56) competed with impressive results. Peddle competed in the 35-39 year old category with a 2nd place finish in the 200 breaststroke event, 3rd in the 100 breaststroke event, 4th in 50 breaststroke and 7th in the 200 individual medley. Evely placed 6th in both the 200 and 400 freestyle events in the 55-59 year old age category. Both swimmers posted personal best times.
