NOTE TO EDITORS: Minister announces funding for major anniversaries in Brigus and Cupids

Tom Hedderson, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, will announce funding for two important community celebrations during a news conference tomorrow (Thursday, May 11).

Under Budget 2006, the department is providing support to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Captain Bob Bartlett�s trip to the North Pole in 2009 and the Cupids 400th Anniversary in 2010.

Minister Hedderson will be joined by Roy Dawe, chair of the Cupers Cove Heritage Foundation and Catherine Dempsey, executive director of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador

"These events will not only celebrate and raise public awareness about significant historical events but strengthen cultural tourism in these areas," said Minister Hedderson.

The announcement will take place at the Cupids Museum in Cupids at 10 a.m.
