Mens and ladies golf associations to amalgamate

The provincial sport governing bodies for ladies and mens golf in Newfoundland and Labrador will amalgamate into a single sport governing body on Saturday, March 11. The NLAGA and the NLGA will form a single association to be called the Newfoundland and Labrador Golf Association.

Judy Bugden, president of the ladies association, and Larry Weatherbie, president of the mens association, will sign a copy of the new constitution and by-laws formalizing the amalgamation on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. during an extra-ordinary meeting of both associations at the Delta St. Johns Hotel. Witnessing the amalgamation will be the Royal Canadian Golf Association, also a signatory to the papers formalizing the new association.

Joining them at this historic event and reception will be past-presidents, former governors, and Hall of Fame members, in addition to delegates from all member clubs in the province. Special guests will also include government officials, Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Federation representatives and Golf Newfoundland and Labrador.

The new president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Golf Association is Judy Bugden who golfs at Admirals Green in St. Johns and who has a long history at both the provincial and national levels in ladies golf. The amalgamation will see the best people in both associations at work, resulting in benefits to golf and golfers in all areas of our province. In addition to serving as president of the new association, Judy will also serve as the womens division representative for Newfoundland and Labrador on the Royal Canadian Golf Association.
