NOTE TO EDITORS: Robert Bateman Writing and Art Contest to take place at
The Rooms, March 2 at 10:15 a.m. (weather contingent)
On Thursday, March 2, the Robert Bateman Writing and Art Contest will be
launched in museums, parks, zoos and aquaria across Canada. The Rooms
Provincial Museum, along with local artist Elayne Greeley, will take
part in the contest by hosting Grade 5 students from Bishop Field
Elementary as they draw inspiration from the museums natural history
exhibit to prepare their submissions to this national contest.
Students will be welcomed at 9:30 a.m. to The Rooms; however, the
creation of submissions will begin at approximately 10:15 a.m.. Media
representatives are invited to attend.
Robert Bateman, one of Canadas foremost wildlife artists, launched the
program in March 2000 to encourage Canadian students to become actively
involved in protecting the future of our planet and the wildlife that
inhabits it. The art portion encourages students to depict their
backyard, while the writing component provides students the opportunity
to write about the future they would like see for the planet. Winning
submissions will be included in the Robert Bateman Contest Calendar as
well as for the TD Special Edition Calendar.
