NOTE TO EDITORS:

Quilt of Belonging to launch first Arctic stop of cross-Canada tour from The Rooms

Esther Bryan, artist and project co-ordinator of Invitation: the Quilt of Belonging, will be present at The Rooms Provincial Museum to provide an in-depth look at the preparation of the quilt for its transfer to Nain, capital of the new Nunatsiavut government in Labrador and the quilts first Arctic stop on its cross-Canada journey.

The tour, which will begin in Nunatsiavut and continue to Nunavik, Nunavut and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, marks more than two years of work on behalf of Invitation and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), the Ottawa-based national organization devoted to representing Canadas four Inuit regions. The partnership represents a shared vision to bring together Canadas north and south, a message uniquely represented in the quilt.

Air travel for the exhibit and the Invitation teams has been made possible through the generous support of Air Labrador, Air Inuit and First Air. A complete list of sponsors and further information can be found at www.invitationproject.ca.

Media representatives are invited to The Rooms Provincial Museum, Level 2, on Monday, January 9 at 10:00 a.m. to view and photograph the dismantling and transfer process and to interview Esther Bryan and representatives from The Rooms who have hosted the exhibit from September 19 to date.
