Forestry Services CEO Receives National Award

Natural Resources Kathy Dunderdale extended congratulations today to Len Moores, chief executive officer of the Forestry Services Branch, upon receiving the Canadian Institute of Forestrys (CIF) prestigious Presidential Award.

"All of us in the department and in government know the contribution Len has made to the forestry industry and I am pleased that his colleagues across the country also recognize his dedication and professionalism," Minister Dunderdale said. "Len has been a positive influence in the department and has played a significant role in helping shape the future direction of sustainable forest management."

The Presidential Award recognizes those who provide national leadership in forestry, promote competence among forestry professionals and foster public awareness of Canadian and international forestry issues. It is presented to an individual who is deemed by their colleagues as having made an outstanding contribution to the CIF through their actions in support of the institutes mission.

"In his 25 years working with the provincial government, Len has demonstrated his proficiency in a variety of fields, including silviculture, management and land use planning and environmental assessment. We are fortunate to have him guiding our Forestry Services Branch," Minister Dunderdale said. "I look forward to his continued leadership as we work with all players in the forest sector to identify and implement new initiatives for the sustainability, growth and prosperity of the industry."

The award was presented earlier this week at the organizations annual general meeting in Cochrane, Ontario. Mr. Moores became the first Newfoundlander and Labradorian to be named president of the CIF in 2002.

CIF members include foresters, forest technologists, forest technicians, educators, scientists and others with a professional interest in forestry. The organization has been the voice of forest practitioners in Canada since 1908.
