Man fined for illegal ATV use and obstruction of a conservation officer

A Gambo resident has pleaded guilty to obstructing a conservation officer and operating an ATV outside an approved area in relation to an incident last summer.

Lindsay Feltham was fined $250 on the charge of obstruction and $500 for illegal use of an ATV when he appeared at provincial court in Gander.

The charges were laid in July 2005 when a conservation officer attempted to stop an ATV that was being operated in an area not approved for ATV use. The conservation officer, after showing his badge and identifying himself, had to take evasive action to avoid being hit by the ATV as the driver attempted to flee.

Two other conservation officers in the area followed the ATV, which was subsequently seized and the owner/operator charged.
