Province invests $343,000 in capital works projects for Bonavista North

Minister of Municipal Affairs Jack Byrne, today announced $343,000 in funding under the provincial Municipal Capital Works Program for projects in the District of Bonavista North. The province will invest $320,000 for construction of a new fire hall for Carmanville and $23,000 for overflow pipe at outfall in New-Wes-Valley.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador committed in Budget 2006 to provide much-needed infrastructure funding to the provinces municipalities, said Minister Byrne. Support for capital works projects like those announced in Bonavista North is vital to ensure that residents throughout the province have sustainable municipal infrastructure.

Both of these projects will be of great benefit to the people of the area, said Bonavista North MHA Harry Harding. I am pleased that such significant investments in fire protection and water and sewer services are taking place in these areas in my district.

Through the Municipal Capital Works Program, valued at $34.5 million for 2006-07, government supports municipal initiatives in water and wastewater systems, water management, roads, recreation, fire fighting equipment and municipal buildings.
