NLIS 6 March 17, 2006 (Justice) New Chief of Royal Newfoundland Constabulary appointed Justice Minister Tom Marshall announced today the appointment of Joe Browne as Chief of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, effective immediately. Joe Browne has been deputy chief since September 2001. "I am delighted that Joe Browne has accepted this appointment. He has risen to this new post through the ranks and is widely acclaimed as both a police officer and administrator," Minister Marshall said. "We extend our best wishes to him as he takes on this challenging new post, and look forward to working with him and the constabulary." Joe Browne succeeds Richard Deering as constabulary chief. Mr. Deering�s contract was scheduled to conclude in February 2007, but he has elected to resign effective today. "We thank Mr. Deering for his service, and wish him well," Minister Marshall said.
