NLHC Awards $127,000 Contract for Work on Bell Island

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) is continuing to move forward with its annual modernization and improvement plans for social housing units throughout the province. The corporation recently awarded G.S. Hunt Ltd., a $127,000 contract to renovate and upgrade six non-profit housing units on Bell Island. The Honourable Paul Shelley, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and minister responsible for NLHC, and the Honourable Dianne Whalen, MHA for Conception Bay East and Bell Island, made the announcement today.

"Ensuring regular assessments and renovations are made to keep the corporations properties up to current safety standards continues to be a significant priority for this government and NLHC," said Minister Shelley. Renovations such as these help ensure a longer life for the buildings while providing residents with improved accommodations and comfort.

The renovations under this contract are for exterior upgrading of three two-unit duplexes on Normore Crescent, Bell Island. The work includes roof replacements, new vinyl siding, as well as door and window installations.

I was delighted to hear this renovation contract was granted, said Minister Dianne Whalen. It shows a long-term interest and commitment by the Provincial Government and NLHC to Bell Island and its people.

Work is currently underway on these units and completion is anticipated by early January 2007.
