 Media Advisory:  Government Provides Update on
Fishing Industry Renewal Process

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Honourable Tom Rideout, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, will make an announcement on the next steps in the Fishing Industry Renewal process on Friday, October 20.

Following the Premier's Summit on the Newfoundland and Labrador Fishery in May 2006, several working committees with government and industry representatives were established.  These committees examined key issues, including close examination of the current structure of the harvesting and processing sectors.

The announcement will be preceded by a technical briefing.
