Premier Expresses Condolences Upon the Passing of Craig Dobbin

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today expressed sincere and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mr. Craig Dobbin, O.C.

"Craig embodied the spirit and passion of a Newfoundlander and Labradorian like no one else, and he worked tirelessly to promote our province on the world stage," said Premier Williams. "He was a patriot, a visionary and a proud supporter of the province he loved.  His contributions were immeasurable, and his legacy will always be an important part of the history of Newfoundland and Labrador.

"More significant than the contributions Craig made in the world of business, were his successes as a husband, father and grandfather. He was a deeply loved individual, who sacrificed for others and worked tirelessly to build a life of happiness for his family and friends.  He will be truly missed.

Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Dobbin founded the worlds largest helicopter company, CHC Helicopters Corp, he was the Consul General of Ireland for Newfoundland and Labrador, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1992, and he received a number of honourary doctorates from universities from around the world.  In January 2000, he was awarded the distinction of Newfoundland's Businessman of the Millennium.

Craig was one of the most prolific and impressive entrepreneurs this has province, and indeed our country, has ever produced, added Premier Williams.  He will forever be remembered for his gregarious personality, his generous spirit and his deep love for his family.  On behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, I offer Elaine and the family our thoughts and prayers during this time.  I know that their treasured memories of Craig will serve as great comfort during this difficult time and for many years to come.
