Premier honours the sacrifice of Sgt. Vaughan Ingram and colleagues

Premier Danny Williams today expressed his deepest condolences to the families and friends of Sgt. Vaughan Ingram of Burgeo and his colleagues who were killed in combat in Afghanistan on Thursday, August 3.

"Like so many brave Newfoundland and Labrador heroes before him, Sgt. Vaughan Ingram gave his life, alongside his colleagues, in a courageous mission to bring peace and security to the citizens of a war-torn land," said Premier Williams.

"We stand in awe of those like Sgt. Vaughan Ingram who give everything they have in order to make a crucial difference in the lives of others. Their selfless actions demonstrate the depth of their character and the magnitude of their generosity as human beings. Their enormous sacrifice will never be forgotten, neither in Afghanistan nor here at home.

"On behalf of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, I convey my deepest condolences to the families and friends of Sgt. Ingram and his colleagues, and I assure all of our Canadian Forces personnel and their families that we will continue to pray for their safety and the success of their mission."

Flags at Confederation Building will fly at half mast in honour of Sgt. Ingram.
