(Executive Council)

The following statement was issued today by Premier Danny Williams:

I was very deeply saddened to hear today of the tragic events that took place off the coast of Nova Scotia, which claimed the lives of three Canadian Forces members. Among the victims of the search and rescue training exercise were two Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

On behalf of the government and people of Newfoundland and Labrador, I extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those individuals who lost their lives today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time of sorrow and loss.

Our Canadian Forces serve the people of this country each and every day. Even in training we see the dangers they face and sacrifices they make for the values they work so hard to promote. They will forever be remembered for their courage, commitment and dedication.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with the individuals who were injured during this tragic accident. We wish you all a fast and full recovery.
