New Provincial Court judge appointed

Justice Minister and Attorney General Tom Marshall announced today the appointment of Michael J. Monaghan Q.C. to be a judge of the Provincial Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. He will serve in the judicial centre of Stephenville.

"On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I would like to congratulate Mr. Monaghan on his new position," said Minister Marshall. "Mr. Monaghan has been a member of the Bar for more than 35 years, practicing in the areas of criminal law, family law and civil litigation. The provincial court will indeed benefit from his years of experience and dedication to the practice of law," said Minister Marshall.

Mr. Monaghan was called to the Bar in 1970 and received bachelor of arts attending both St. Francis Xavier University and Ottawa University, and a bachelor of laws from Dalhousie Law School. He is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and most recently was a senior partner with Monaghan, Murphy and Watton in Corner Brook. Mr. Monaghan�s appointment is effective immediately.
