Provincial Government Proclaims June 11-17 as Public Service Week

The provincial government has declared the week of June 11 to June 17, 2006 as Public Service Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. The theme of the week is "Highlighting Innovation, Commitment and Excellence".

Premier Danny Williams says: "Public Service Week gives us a special opportunity to recognize and celebrate the innovation, commitment and excellence of our public service. The thousands of men and women who dedicate their lives to a career in the public service contribute immensely to our province and our way of life. Each day, often behind the scenes, they deliver a wide range of essential programs and services across Newfoundland and Labrador. These services make our lives healthier, safer and more enjoyable.

"While we need to be mindful of this contribution on a daily basis, it is good to shine a special light on the important work that is being done. I am pleased that we have Public Service Week to do just that."

Over the past number of years, the provincial government has been actively engaged in developing a stronger human resources management strategy. It will ensure that the public service continues to meet todays needs and that employees are ready to embrace new challenges, approaches and opportunities.
