CEO appointment confirmed

Premier Danny Williams today confirmed the appointment of Len Moores as chief executive officer of the Forestry Services Branch of the Department of Natural Resources, a position Mr. Moores has held in an acting capacity for the past six months.

"Mr. Moores has provided exemplary service during his public service career, and we look forward to his continued contribution to the development and implementation of effective forestry policies," the Premier said.

The CEO position is headquartered in Corner Brook and reports directly to the Minister of Natural Resources.

BIOGRAPHY

Len Moores has worked with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador since 1981, holding positions with responsibility in the fields of silviculture, management planning, land use planning, and environmental assessment. Prior to service as CEO of the Forestry Services Branch in an acting capacity, he was executive director (policy coordination and strategic direction) of the branch. He has also served as director of ecosystem health, Department of Natural Resources, focused on maintaining healthy forests, economies and communities.

Mr. Moores was lead author on the Provincial Sustainable Forest Management Strategy (2003), which provides the direction for the Forestry Services Branch and how the province�s forests will be managed. He is on the Board of Directors for the Sustainable Forest Management Network located at the University of Alberta, a director on the Sustainable Forest Management Network, trustee for the Forestry Awareness in Canada Trust Fund, and chair of the College of the North Atlantic Forestry Technical Program Advisory Committee. In 2002 he became the first Newfoundlander and Labradorian to be named president of the Canadian Institute of Forestry.

Mr. Moores holds a bachelor of science degree in forestry from the University of New Brunswick, and a master�s degree in forestry from Lakehead University.
