Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT REQUIRED:

Newfoundland and Labrador Refinery Project                                            (Reg. 1301)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation

The minister has advised the proponent that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required for this project. The EIS will be required to examine among other things: air quality, effluent quality, migratory birds, fish and fish habitat, water resources, aquaculture, historic resources and the socio-economic environment. An environmental assessment committee will be appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for conducting the EIS.
