Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Clyde Jackman Minister of Environment and Conservation has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Crown District 21 (Charlottetown to L�Anse au Clair) Five Year Forestry Plan (2007-11)
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources                           (Reg. 1298)

The proponent has submitted a Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management District 21, which covers an area in southeastern Labrador from Charlottetown on the northeast coast, to L�Anse au Clair in the Labrador Straits, an area approximately 1.9 million hectares in size. The five year plan describes forestry operations in the district for the operating period from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2011. The plan describes: past activities in the district; the proposed allocation of wood supply and forest harvesting; silviculture; forest road construction; forest protection, environmental protection measures; and monitoring and research activities. The undertaking was registered on October 11, 2006; public comments are due by November 16, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by November 25, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
