Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to
Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
(1) Parkers Cove ATV Trail
(Reg. 1290)
Proponent: John Brushett
The proponent proposes to construct an All Terrain-Vehicle (ATV) trail
from Parker�s Cove to Boat Harbour, on the Burin Peninsula to access
Power Horn ATV Trail. The trail will be approximately eight kilometres
long and will follow an existing pole line and barrens. Construction is
tentatively scheduled to begin this fall. The undertaking was registered
on September 14, 2006; public comments are due by October 20, 2006; and,
the minister's decision is due by October 28, 2006.
(2) Winterland ATV Trail
(Reg. 1291)
Proponent: Winterland Trail Association
The proponent proposes to construct a five kilometre All Terrain-Vehicle
(ATV) trail in the Winterland area of the Burin Peninsula. The purpose
of the trail is to access remote cottages in the area. The trail will
start near the Winterland town office and proceed to an area just south
of the Winterland airstrip. The trail will be approximately three metres
wide and construction is expected to take approximately two weeks to
complete. The undertaking was registered on September 14, 2006; public
comments are due by October 20, 2006; and, the minister's decision is
due by October 29, 2006.
(3) CBPP Dist. 9 and 16 Five Year Forestry Plan (2007-2011)

Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp & Paper Ltd.
The proponent has submitted a Five Year Operating Plan for Forest
Management Districts 9 and 16 which are combined to form Planning Zone 7
as mandated by the new planning framework legislated by the Newfoundland
Forest Service. Planning Zone 7 extends from Deer Lake in the west to
Cat Arm in the north and includes all of the Baie Verte Peninsula. The
Five Year Plan describes: past activities in the districts; the proposed
allocation of wood supply and forest harvesting; silviculture; forest
road construction; forest protection, environmental protection measures;
and, monitoring and research activities from 2007 up to 2011. The
undertaking was registered on September 14, 2006; public comments are
due by October 20, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by October
29, 2006.
EXTENSION FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS ON DRAFT EIS GUIDELINES
Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant
(Reg. 1243)
Proponent: Voisey�s Bay Nickel Company Limited
The minister has extended the public review period on the draft EIS
guidelines. The deadline date for public submissions is October 16,
2006. Copies of the draft guidelines are available from the division�s
web site or by contacting the environmental assessment committee
chairperson Carl Strong at (709) 729-0834 or email at
CStrong@gov.nl.ca.
The minister encourages all
interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed
in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date
shown.
