Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Abitibi Dist. 12 (Captain Storms Brook) Forest Plan Amendment                         (Reg. 1282)
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated

The proponent proposes to harvest 53,700 cubic metres of mature to over-mature timber, representing approximately 419 hectares near Captain Storms Brook and Noel Paul Brook, in Forest Management District 12, central Newfoundland. The proposed harvest is scheduled for late fall of 2006 and the winter of 2007. The main forest access road through this proposed harvest area was previously approved during the five-year plan submission (2003-2007) for District 12, Noel Paul South. The undertaking was registered on August 11, 2006; public comments are due by September 18, 2006: and, the minister's decision is due by September 24, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
