Minister meeting with
Atlantic environment ministers in New Brunswick
Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment
and Conservation, will meet with his Atlantic counterparts in New
Brunswick, August 7-9.
�I look forward to meeting and discussing the important environmental
issues we face in our provinces and region, and moving these issues
forward using a common approach to address our mutual concerns,� said
Minister Jackman. �Last year, my colleagues in the Atlantic region
agreed to a terms of reference for the establishment of the Atlantic
Council of Ministers of Environment that formalized the Atlantic
Provinces� commitment to working together to advance the region�s key
environmental priorities.�
Agenda items for discussion at the meeting include solid waste programs,
a national municipal wastewater effluent management strategy, a
biosolids management strategy, hydrometric agreements and a commitment
statement on environmental sustainability in Canada.
The minister noted that the Atlantic region has many environmental
challenges and opportunities. "We all face environmental challenges
however protecting and enhancing the environment in our provinces can
only be strengthened through cooperation and commitment involving all
concerned parties."
