Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1) Abitibi District 11 (Sandy Lake) Forestry Plan Amendment (Reg. 1273)
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Company of Canada

The proponent proposes to harvest a total of approximately 24,400 cubic metres of mature to over-mature timber, representing a total of approximately 213 hectares at Sandy Lake, south-west of Grand Falls-Windsor. To access this area, approximately 5.0 kilometres of new operational road will be constructed. The proposed harvest is outside the current five-year operating plan for Forest Management District 11. The undertaking was registered on July 6, 2006; public comments are due by August 10, 2006; and, the Minister's decision is due by August 19, 2006.

(2) CBPP District 14 Access Road Amendment (Reg. 1274)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp & Paper Ltd.

The proponent proposes to construct approximately 6 kilometres of primary forest access road near Gallants on the West Coast, and in addition, a new bridge across Harry's River. This road and bridge is being constructed to access timber stands that would normally be accessed via White's Road (Route 460) and the community of Black Duck. The new road would allow for wood trucks to by-pass Route 460 and the communities of Black Duck and Gallants. The undertaking was registered on July 5, 2006; public comments are due by August 10, 2006; and, the Minister's decision is due by August 19, 2006.


The Minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the Minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
