Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Crown District 4 Five Year Operating Plan Southwest Gander Amendment
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Service                                    (Reg. 1268)

The proponent proposes an amendment to the Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management District 4 in the vicinity of Southwest Gander River at Southwest Pond. The amendment provides for an additional harvest of approximately 25,000 cubic metres of merchantable Class I softwood and 10,000 cubic metres of Class III softwood over a two year period. The operating area will be accessed from Glenwood in the north and the Northwest Gander River along Bay d�Espoir Highway in the west. Reconstruction of 19 kilometres of existing road will be required. New primary road construction of approximately seven kilometres will also be required. One reconstructed bridge will be at Larsen's Falls to the north and another will be on the Southwest Gander River to the west. The undertaking was registered on June 15, 2006; Public comments are due by July 25, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by July 30, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
