Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1) Abitibi Dist 12 Five Year Plan Amendment (Denney�s Pond)      (Reg. 1204)
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated

The proponent proposes to harvest 107,400 cubic metres of mature to over mature timber, representing approximately 832 hectares, within the Michaels and Denny�s Pond areas in Forest Management District 12, located in central Newfoundland. These two areas fall outside the current Five-Year Operating Plan. A total of 11.9 kilometres of new operational roads are proposed to be built, with 11.3 kilometres of additional roads upgraded. The undertaking was registered on May 24, 2006; public comments are due by June 28, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by July 8, 2006.

(2) La Scie Mink Farm    (Reg. 1262)
Proponent: Future Furs

The proponent proposes a 1,000 breeder mink farm to be located three kilometres south of La Scie on Route 414. The 10 acre site will have two sheds/barns for housing the mink (122 metres by 11 metres) which will also be fenced, a storage shed (30 metres by 11 metres), feed kitchen with freezer, and pelting and drying operation. Construction is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2006. The undertaking was registered on May 23, 2006; Public comments are due by June 28, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by July 7, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
