Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Terra Nova River Fishway Access Road                                (Reg. 1255)
Proponent: Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)

The proponent plans to construct a 4.5 kilometre access road to a fishway located on the upper portion of Terra Nova River, in central Newfoundland. The proposed road is to extend from an existing 800 metre long access road that intersects Route 301 approximately 1.5 kilometres east of the Town of Terra Nova. The existing road is also planned to be upgraded. The road is proposed to facilitate future reconstruction of the fishway and to provide DFO employees access for seasonal monitoring and maintenance programs, which are currently accessed as a remote site. Construction is planned to start in early July and be completed by early September 2006. The undertaking was registered on May 2, 2006; public comments are due by June 6, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by June 16, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Port au Port Peninsula Seismic Program                            (Reg. 1239)
Proponent: Tekoil & Gas Corporation

The minister has released the Port au Port Peninsula Seismic Program from further environmental assessment review subject to the preparation and approval of an Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) prior to the commencement of the project. The EPP should present a field ready reference of operating, monitoring, and reporting protocols that address requirements in the registration document and the additional ones required or requested by regulatory agencies.
