NLIS 3 March 29, 2006 (Environment and Conservation) Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act. UNDERTAKING REGISTERED: Carbonear Seal Tannery
(Reg. 1245) The proponent proposes to expand their existing seal processing plant in Carbonear to enable the tanning of seal pelts. The operation will process seal skins to the dressed (tanned) stage. The site is approximately 22,812 square feet and contains two buildings and storage tanks for seal oil. Tanning equipment will be installed in the existing production building and will consist of two shaving machines, buffing machine, two dying tanks, one drycleaner, and six de-dusting drums. A wastewater treatment system will be installed. Installation of equipment will take approximately two months to complete. The undertaking was registered on March 28, 2006; public comments are due by May 3, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by May 12, 2006. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the Minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
