Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Big Cook's Pond (Corner Brook) Cottage Management Plan                   (Reg. 1235)
Proponent: Land Management Division

The proponent proposes to establish a maximum of 25 remote cottage lots within the Big Cook's Pond Cottage Planning Area to ensure further development is limited to acceptable levels with regard to environmental and health safety concerns and in appropriate locations with respect to other land uses. The Big Cook's Pond Cottage Planning Area is situated approximately 14 kilometres southwest of the City of Corner Brook. Development of the remote lots is confined to sites along Big Cook's Pond in two separate areas. A typical cottage lot size is 0.4 hectares and the total proposed lots represent a development area of 10 hectares. The remainder of the planning area is restricted from further cottage development. The remote lots will have on-site sanitary and potable water facilities. No road construction is required for the remote cottage lots. The undertaking was registered on February 6; public comments are due by March 14; and the minister's decision is due by March 23.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
