Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Cavendish Mink Farm                                                              (Reg. 1233)
Proponent: G. C. Furs

The proponent proposes to expand the mink farm at the former A&D Furs fox farm on Fur Farm Road off Route 80 between Hearts Delight and Cavendish. The addition of four, six metre by 50 metre sheds plus a five metre by 10 metre storage shed and perimeter fencing will enable expansion from the 100 female breeders now on site to 1,000 females and their kits. There will be temporary storage of manure on a concrete pad covered with a tarpaulin with disposal by local farmers spreading on their fields for nutrient value. Feed preparation and pelting will be contracted to existing off-site operations. The proponent plans to start construction on one additional mink shed in the spring of 2006, another in 2007, and the remaining two in 2008. The undertaking was registered on January 17, 2006; public comments are due by February 23, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by March 3, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
