Minister announces funding for City of St. John's Summer Cleanup Project

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced funding valued at $15,000, to contribute to the City of St. Johns 2005 Summer Cleanup Project.

According to Minister Rideout, these initiatives are vital in protecting and enhancing our environment, a high priority for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

"Addressing any contaminated sites and areas where littering is an obvious problem is something government takes very seriously," said the minister. "We encourage cleanup efforts such as this one in order to alleviate any current littering problems and to help ensure they dont continue.

"To that end, I am pleased to allocate significant funding for this venture to promote an effective 2005 cleanup effort."

Minister Rideout said, "Government will continue to be proactive in its efforts to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment, resulting in healthier and more productive communities around the province."
