NOTE TO EDITORS: Blasting to be carried out at wharf in Portugal Cove

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that blasting procedures must be performed at the wharf in Portugal Cove to remove underlying rock discovered during dredging procedures at the wharf.

The removal of this rock is essential to enable the wharf to safely accommodate the MV Nonia during extreme low tides. Blasting will begin tomorrow morning and should take approximately one day to complete.

The MV Nonia and the MV Beaumont Hamel continue to encounter weather conditions that are preventing both vessels from reaching their respective ports.

A further announcement will be made as information becomes available.
