NLIS 1 October 20, 2005 (Transportation and Works) Minister announces awarding of contract for road work in Trinity North Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Ross Wiseman, MHA for Trinity North, today announced that J-1 Contracting Limited has been awarded a contract to complete road projects throughout the district. These road improvements are funded under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This is part of a $2,549,875 contract awarded to J-1 Contracting Limited of Clarenville to complete a number of road improvements on the Bonavista Peninsula and surrounding area. Under this part of the contract, valued at $1,067,000, the following work will be completed in Trinity North District: Minister Rideout said: "At $48.7 million, including carryovers, this year�s Provincial Roads Improvement Program represents the largest investment in roads infrastructure in decades. In addition, we have made an $18.7 million increase over the 2004-05 roads program. "With an investment of this magnitude, this government is demonstrating that we are committed to improving transportation infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. We are making great strides toward revitalizing the 9,500 km of road under our jurisdiction. Government will do what is fiscally possible to ensure this continues." "The awarding of the contract for over $1 million in roadwork for my district of Trinity North is great news," said Mr. Wiseman. "This work is now underway, and once completed the people of my district will enjoy an improved driving experience and enhanced road safety."
