New batch of approvals in support
of Crab Worker Support Program announced
The Department of Municipal and Provincial
Affairs today announced $289,600 in project approvals in support of the Crab
Support Program.
�We remain pleased with the effort by communities
and workers to bring forth constructive work initiatives. The projects are
diverse and offer communities opportunity to invest in construction,
infrastructure and beautification initiatives that otherwise may not have
received funding,� stated Minister Jack Byrne. �These projects will offer
lasting benefit to communities throughout the province.�
New projects approved, and those which received
increases to funding include:
- $2,100 to Aquaforte for the construction of
a pump house;
- $4,100 to Badger�s Quay Cape Freels
Development Association for various community projects;
$2,100 to Bay Bulls in support of walking trail construction;
- $2,100 to Bay Roberts Royal Canadian Legion
Branch #32 for painting and general repairs to the Legion building;
- $9,100 increase to Bonavista for beach
clean-up (total project $34,900);
- $4,100 to Branch for softball field upgrade
and cemetery maintenance;
- $6,200 to Bridgeport Fisherman�s committee
to repair slipway;
- $11,900 increase to Calvert Hall Committee
for repair and upgrade of the community centre (total project $19,700);
- $6,200 increase to Cape Broyle for community
maintenance (total projects $71,600);
- $14,500 to Carmanville Habitat Committee for
work associated with the Wetland Nature Park;
- $2,100 to Chance Islands in support of trail
development and town repairs;
- $9,300 to Colliers for repair of boardwalk,
tree cutting and pool clean-up;
- $13,000 to Fermeuse in support of walking
trail;
- $3,600 increase to Ferryland for lighthouse
restoration and trail development (total project $23,340 );
- $10,300 increase to Grates Cove Cabot Rock
Heritage for work on fishing stages and cook house;
$6,200 increase to Greenspond for construction of walking trail (total
project $34,200);
- $8,300 to Indian Bay Ecosystem Corporation
in support of Indian Bay Centre;
- $3,100 to Jerseyside Placentia Area
Development Association for repairs to the regional trail system;
- $7,300 increase to Lamiline for renovations
to public infrastructure (total project $13,500);
- $18,700 increase to Lawn for renovations to
soccer pitch and trail (total project $33,700);
- $16,100 to Lewisporte Area Development
Association for work on Bay Museum and Craft Shop;
- $3,100 increase to Little Catalina for new
playground (total project $64,000);
- $2,600 to Lower Amherst Cove St. Nicholas
Anglican Church for property maintenance;
- $2,100 increase to Mary�s Harbour for
tourism sites and cemeteries (total project $132,800);
- $8,800 to Old Perlican for town building
repairs;
- $6,400 to Portugal Cove South Cape Race �PCS
Heritage Inc for maintenance work and interpreters;
- $3,600 increase to Pilley�s Island for
repairs to community buildings (total project $35,300);
- $6,200 to Robert�s Arm for renovations to
public buildings;
- $4,700 increase to Salmon Cove for municipal
building renovations (total project $24,900);
- $8,800 to Sibley�s Cove Lower Trinity South
Development Association for upgrades to museum;
- $1,000 increase to St. Lewis for various
community projects (total projects $71,000);
- $2,100 increase to St. Lawrence for repairs
to community stage and repairs;
- $11,900 to Summerford in support of general
issues relating to fisherman�s buildings, guide rails and boat haul out;
- $3,900 to Too Good Arm in support of
maintenance to trails, walkways, ski trail and playground;
- $14,800 increase to Trepassey Management
Corporation to restore/enhance municipal structure and road (total project
$31,400);
- $11,900 increase to Victoria for renovations
to municipal structures (total project $46,400);
- $37,300 increase to Western Bay North Shore
Regional Development Association for repairs to various community facilities
(total projects $54,900).
- Government has approved approximately $2.9
million in projects in communities throughout the province in support of the
Fortune and Crab Income Support Programs. To date, 1,652 applications have
been approved and 1,533 crab industry workers have been provided employment.
