Minister announces road projects for
Exploits District
Tom Rideout, Minister of
Transportation and Works, and Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits, today announced
that $200,000 in funding has been allocated for road improvements in Exploits
District. The funding for these projects is allocated under the 2005-06
Provincial Roads Improvement Program.
Our government is committed to improving the transportation infrastructure in
rural areas of Newfoundland and Labrador, said Minister Rideout. Undertaking
these road projects in Exploits District demonstrates this commitment, and this
will generate employment opportunities and attract tourists to this area.
In Exploits District, government has allocated $100,000 for resurfacing sections
of Barricks Hill and an additional $100,000 has been put aside for resurfacing
at Glovers Harbour.
I am pleased that Minister Rideout has announced these two projects, said MHA
Clayton Forsey. The road upgrade in Glovers Harbour is long overdue and will
aid the community in attracting tourists to their giant squid replica. Barricks
Hill in Point Leamington is a school zone area and these upgrades will increase
safety for children.
Minister Rideout said: These road projects will go a long way toward
revitalizing the local economy. Government will continue to invest in strategic
initiatives such as the provincial roads program, as we further our commitment
to ensuring Newfoundland and Labrador possesses the transportation systems that
are necessary for it to succeed in an integrated and competitive global
economy.
