Minister announces awarding of contract for road work in
Grand Falls-Buchans and Bellevue districts

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced that contracts to complete road improvements in the Grand Falls-Buchans and Bellevue districts have been awarded to the sum of $296,365. This road work is funded under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

CAN-AM Construction 2004 Limited, Shearstown, has been awarded a contract valued at $42,200 to replace expansion joints on Aspen Brook Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway in the Grand Falls-Buchans District.

H & B Construction Limited, New Harbour, has been awarded a contract for road work in Bellevue District, valued at $254,165, to supply and install culverts on Route 201 at Landy Cove Brook, and on the Trans Canada Highway at Fairhaven Brook.

Minister Rideout said, Government had initially invested $33.7 million into the provincial road network through Budget 2005. This investment now stands at $48.7 million after two significant increases. Our government understands the importance of an improved transportation network in our province. The significant monies allocated to these improvements are one more step in accomplishing this goal.

"Our commitment to safeguarding our roads infrastructure is indicative of our plan to revitalize our economy. Investing in government programs that will result in long-term benefits for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians is very important.  I am pleased to see that work has commenced on these projects.

The work projects for the Grand Falls-Buchans and Bellevue districts are scheduled to be completed by August 15 and August 31, respectively.
