Road improvements announced for Trinity-Bay de Verde

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Charlene Johnson, MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde, today announced road projects for the district valued at over $1.9 million. This funding is made available under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

Minister Rideout said, As part of governments ongoing commitment to rehabilitating our provincial roads infrastructure, $48.7 million will be made available under this years program, including $3.7 million to be carried over from last year. Our government recognizes the need for a safe and reliable road system and other associated benefits for the residents of this province. To that end, I am pleased to announce that over $1.9 million has been allocated for work in Trinity-Bay de Verde.

Planned road work for the district includes:

  • $325,000 for paving in Grates Cove;
  • $415,000 for paving in Jobs Cove;
  • $285,000 for paving a section of New Harbour Barrens;
  • $195,000 for paving in Western Bay;
  • $335,000 for paving in New Chelsea;
  • $175,000 to replace a culvert on Route 80 at Brook Cove, Islington;
  • $180,000 for paving in Sibleys Cove.

$1.9 million for road work is a significant investment in the district of Trinity-Bay de Verde. It is consistent with this governments continuing commitment to provide and maintain quality rural infrastructure. The announced road improvements will increase public safety and enhance the tourism potential of the district, said Ms. Johnson.

Over the past year and a half, our government has made significant investments in business and economic rural development throughout our province, said the minister. These projects will continue this trend as they will result in improved roads, job opportunities and make for a more pleasant experience for the traveling public.
