Road work announced for Conception
Bay South
Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and
Works, and Terry French, Caucus Whip and MHA for Conception Bay South, today
announced road projects for the Conception Bay South District valued at $390,000
in new funding.
Minister Rideout said: An improved transportation infrastructure is a high
priority for our government and Budget 2005 has allocated significant monies for
our roads infrastructure. This includes a continuation of $35 million for the
Provincial Roads Improvement Program, plus $3.7 million in carryovers from last
year. Residents of Conception Bay South district will benefit from this program
with several projects planned for the district.
Planned projects for the district include:
- $250,000 for resurfacing of Route 60 from
Mahers Bridge to North Arm Bridge;
- $80,000 to improve flow under bridge on
Route 60 in Upper Gullies and improve road conditions;
- $52,000 in carryovers from last year that
will go towards replacing expansion joints on the Foxtrap Access Road
Overpass;
- $60,000 to stabilize slopes on the CBS
Bypass road to prevent further erosion.
This years roadwork commitment of $390,000 is
great news for the district of Conception Bay South, said Mr. French. This
announcement brings the total funding allocated to my district over the past two
years to over $1 million. The work scheduled for this year will certainly build
upon the significant improvements made last year. These upgrades will increase
public safety and are part of our governments ongoing commitment to maintaining
quality road infrastructure.
These road projects will create employment opportunities, and an improved
transportation network will benefit residents and local economies, said the
minister. Our government is committed to investing in government programs that
will yield concrete benefits for our communities, industries and province.
Funding for these projects is allocated under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads
Improvement Program.
