Road improvements announced for Kilbride District

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Ed Byrne, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for the Kilbride District, today announced road projects for the district under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

"With funding of $500,000, government plans to resurface various sections of Route 2 in the Kilbride District, including guide rail repair and replacement," said Minister Byrne. "I am very pleased to we are able to make this significant investment to improve the road infrastructure in our community."

Minister Rideout said: "In the past 18 months, our government has been making smart, strategic investments in our infrastructure with the goal of boosting economic development. Budget 2005 allocated significant monies for our roads infrastructure.

"This includes a Provincial Roads Improvement Program valued at $33.7 million, which includes $3.7 million in carryover work from last year. This demonstrates government�s ongoing commitment to improved transportation links in the province.

"Our government values our highway infrastructure and recognizes the need to provide road users with access to a safe and reliable transportation network," said the minister. "Our government will continue to invest in our transportation network for the benefit of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians."
