Road improvements announced for
Humber Valley District
Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and
Works, and Kathy Goudie, MHA for Humber Valley, today announced road projects
for Humber Valley District valued at $1 million in new funding.
Minister Rideout said: "The 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program
provides funding for upgrading and improving the provincial highway network,
including bridges. The program is valued at $33.7 million, including $3.7
million in carryover work from last year.
"I am pleased to announce funding for projects in the Humber Valley District
that will benefit residents and the traveling public," said the minister.
Planned work for the Humber Valley District includes upgrades to Trout River
Road valued at $550,000. In addition there are plans to pave a section of Route
420 near Jackson�s Arm Road, valued at $450,000.
MHA Kathy Goudie said: "Upgrades to Trout River Road and Route 420 near
Jackson's Arm will increase public safety for all travelers and will undoubtedly
have a positive impact on tourism throughout the entire region. These road
improvements are just further examples of this government's commitment to
providing quality rural infrastructure."
Minister Rideout said: "Our government is committed to revitalizing rural
Newfoundland and Labrador. We recognize the value of a safe and reliable
infrastructure for economic development. The substantial allocation to the
Provincial Roads Improvement Program demonstrates our government�s commitment to
our roads infrastructure."
