Road improvements announced for
Topsail District
Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and
Works, and Elizabeth Marshall, MHA for Topsail District, today announced road
projects for the district under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement
Program.
Minister Rideout said: "This years roads program provides funding for upgrading
and improving the highway network throughout the province. The program is valued
at $33.7 million, including $3.7 million in carryover work from last year.
"I am pleased to announce funding for work in Topsail District that will benefit
residents and the traveling public."
Planned road projects for the district include the continued upgrading of Route
60, from Chaytors Road toward Manuels Bridge. This project is valued at
$500,000. There will also be a grant to the Town of Paradise, valued at
$125,000, that will be used to upgrade and pave Karwood Extension. This is a
multi-district project that will overlap with the Conception Bay East-Bell
Island District.
MHA Elizabeth Marshall said: "Reliable infrastructure is the foundation of
successful and prosperous communities. Government's $33.7 million commitment to
this year's roads improvements program will make significant improvements to
road infrastructure throughout the province. In the Topsail District, upgrades
to Route 60 from Chaytor's Road to Manuels Bridge will make traveling the area
safer and more pleasant for both residents and visitors."
"This years substantial investment in our roads infrastructure is indicative of
our governments commitment to providing a safe and reliable roads
infrastructure," said the minister. "Government will continue to invest in these
initiatives as we guide Newfoundland and Labrador toward improved highway
infrastructure."
