Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Tom Hedderson, Minister of Education and MHA for Harbour Main-Whitbourne District, today announced road projects for the district. Funding for these projects is allocated through the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

Minister Rideout said: "A priority of our government is ensuring a safe and reliable roads infrastructure. This years Provincial Roads Improvement Program is valued at $33.7 million, including $3.7 million that has been carried over from last year. I am pleased to announce funding in the amount of $1.2 million for road work in the Harbour Main-Whitbourne District for planned road improvement projects."

Planned projects for the district include:

  • $250,000 for the upgrading of Church Road in Harbour Main;
  • $400,000 for resurfacing a section of Route 60 in North Arm, Holyrood, from North Arm Bridge to Ridge Road;
  • $200,000 for paving in Colliers (Harbour Drive);
  • $200,000 for paving a section of Georgetown Road;
  • $150,000 for paving in Markland

"I am delighted with this latest capital investment in the Harbour Main-Whitbourne District, a clear demonstration of governments ongoing commitment to rural development and an improved transportation network," said Minister Hedderson. "This funding will provide much needed improvements to the road infrastructure in my district."

"The Department of Transportation and Works maintains approximately 9,500 kilometres of primary, secondary and community roads throughout the province," said Minister Rideout. "Our government has and will continue to make strategic investments to improve our roads infrastructure, create economic growth and improve the quality of life for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians."
