"This funding comes as welcome news to the District of Cape St. Francis. I am delighted that government has shown its commitment to enhancing the infrastructure and the safety of the roads. I am particularly pleased with the amount of funding to be spent on the local roads in this district this year. It is by far the most that has been spent over the past number of years," said MHA Jack Byrne.

Minister Rideout said: "Road work creates employment opportunities, and an improved transportation system will result in safer roads for users. Our government recognizes the benefits for provincial road users of investing in the maintenance of our highway infrastructure. The allocation in Budget 2005 for the Provincial Roads Improvement Program is valued at $33.7 million this year, including $3.7 million in carry overs.

"This demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding our roads infrastructure. It is also indicative of our plan to revitalize our economy by investing in government programs that will result in long-term benefits for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians," said the minister.
