Road work announced for Ferryland
District
Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and
Works, and Loyola Sullivan, MHA for Ferryland District and Minister of Finance
and President of Treasury Board, today announced road work for the district
under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.
"The Department of Transportation and Works maintains approximately 9,500 km of
primary, secondary and community roads throughout the province," said Minister
Rideout. "This year�s roads program has allocated over $2.2 million toward
upgrading of the transportation network in Ferryland District. This funding will
allow for a number of upgrades throughout the district, to ensure the safety of
road users through the presence of a reliable roads system."
Planned projects for Ferryland District include:
- $450,000 for repairs to Route 10, from
Witless Bay to Bay Bulls;
- $430,000 for upgrades to roads in Cape
Broyle, which will involve a continuation of new pavement south to the base
of Cape Broyle Hill;
- $430,000 for improvements near Chance Cove ;
- $288,000 carried over from last year for
upgrades and paving to Port Kerwin Road and Lumleys Cove Road ;
- $280,000 for upgrades from Biscay Bay Hill
to the turn past Biscay Bay Bridge;
- $250,000 for work within the community of
Portugal Cove South;
- $180,000 for upgrades in Petty Harbour, from
the main bridge to Maddox Cove;
- $120,000 for upgrades from Halfway Hill to
Stoney River Bridge;
- $50,000 to replace existing culverts at Tom
O�Toole�s Brook, Renews;
- $40,000 to replace a culvert in Kingman�s
Cove with an aluminum arch;
- $15,000 for road maintenance in Trepassey.
"I am very pleased to see this investment being
made throughout the Ferryland District," said Minister Sullivan. "Solid
infrastructure and transportation systems benefit all aspects of community and
economic development, and with this funding, much needed work will be done on
the road infrastructure in the district."
Minister Rideout said, "Our government has allocated significant monies in
Budget 2005 for road work. This demonstrates government�s ongoing commitment to
rural development by providing an improved transportation network throughout the
province."
