NOTE TO EDITORS: Portrait of one of the province�s �founding fathers� to be unveiled

Edward Roberts, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador will be joined by Dr. Priscilla Renouf, chair of the Board of Directors of The Rooms Corporation, along with representatives from Canadian Heritage, the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, The Portrait Gallery of Canada, Library and Archives Canada and private donors to unveil the portraits of one of Newfoundland and Labrador�s �founding fathers,� Rear-Admiral Sir John Berry and his wife, Lady Berry. The prestigious acquisition, dating to circa 1689, represents the earliest oil portraits housed in the Library and Archives Canada collection.

Edward Roberts will unveil the portrait at The Rooms Theatre on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. Media representatives are invited to attend the event and following reception. A photo opportunity and/or interview with representatives will be available.

The Portrait Gallery of Canada, announced by the federal government in 2001, and a part of Library and Archives Canada, is dedicated to showcasing the many men and women from all walks of life who have helped to shape and continue to shape the country.
