Sport Newfoundland and Labrador announces new board

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador held its annual general meeting last weekend at the Capital Hotel in St. John�s. Friday afternoon�s session was highlighted by a keynote address by Paul Shelley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. He spoke about the importance of promoting sport and physical activity in the province and the importance of making an investment in the overall health and well-being of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Saturday session was business as usual with some resolutions being brought forward that will improve some programs and services currently administered by the Organization. Saturday evening saw six new members go into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame. They included Frank Deacy, Bill Hryniw, Fred Jackson, Alf Parsons George Parson and the late Dick Power.

The annual general meeting finished up Saturday afternoon with the election of its board of directors.

Tom Godden is the newly elected president. First vice president is Doug Fowler with Rod Nichol moving into the position of second vice president. Carol White returns for a second year as treasurer as does secretary Derek Ryan. Angela King moves into the position of director-at-large, Felicity O�Brien continues as eastern director as does northern director Trevor Paine. Aden White moves into the position of western director and Bill Burke will serve as central director. Dave Brenton is past president. New to the board this year is John Pickett and he will take on the responsibilities of southern director.
