NOTE TO EDITORS: Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model presentation

A Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model presentation will take place on Friday, October 14, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., at Salon F, Holiday Inn, St. Johns.

The Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, developed by Sport Canada, outlines the best way to help children be active and healthy for life. It indicates the ideal ages at which children should be taught certain skills. It will be compared against what is currently happening in Newfoundland and Labrador, so that needs for improvement can be identified and then acted upon.

Leading the presentation will be Richard Way, Principal of Citius Performance Group and Project Manager of the Canadian LTAD Project, and Dr. Colin Higgs, Professor of Physical Education at Memorial University of Newfoundland. They will present the model and explain how it will promote physical activity for life, how children and athletes will benefit and how people from parents to coaches can get involved.
